A. Common Questions and Answers
============================================================
A1. How to improve the system performance
------------------------------------------------------------
Microsoft Works for Windows, Multimedia Edition uses a lot of your
system's memory and speed to display the animated movies and the
Online Reference. The minimum memory requirement is 4 Megabytes (MB).
You can improve your system's performance by:
A) Adding more extended memory to your system.
B) Running Works without the SmartDrive device driver that
Microsoft Windows may have installed on your system. (To disable
SmartDrive remove the DEVICE=SMARTDRV.SYS line from your CONFIG.SYS.
For more information see your Windows documentation.)
C) Setting up a permanent SwapFile on your hard drive
(if you are using a computer with a 386 processor).
NOTE: Normally Windows creates its own temporary SwapFile, but
if your hard disk is full or fragmented, this temporary file
occasionally becomes unavailable. Make the permanent SwapFile at
least 2048 Kilobytes (K). For more information see your Windows
documentation.
D) Using a 16-color driver for your display, even if you have a
256-color card, when running on a 20 MHz or slower system with
only 4 MB of RAM. (To change the display driver, run the
Microsoft Windows Setup program from MS-DOS or Windows and
select the standard VGA driver.)
E) For best performance of the multimedia elements, it is recommended
that you set your color card driver to display no more than 256 colors.
F) Defragment, or "clean up," your hard disk by running a disk
defragmentation program. Third-party utility and disk optimization
programs often provide a defragmenting program.
A2 Using Microsoft Works, Multimedia Edition with Microsoft Encarta.
------------------------------------------------------------
When you install Encarta, it is essential that you choose the Faster
option. (This option appears when you run Encarta Setup) . If Encarta
was installed on your system when you bought it, then your hardware
manufacturer should have already used the Fast install option.
A3. System Hangs Entering Works Communications
------------------------------------------------------------
* If you have a Pentium Processor and you are running
Windows for Workgroups 3.11 you must obtain an updated
SERIAL.386 driver for Windows for Workgroups 3.11. You
can obtain this driver from Microsoft Product Support
Services, Microsoft Download Service, or the CompuServe
Software Library.
* If you are encountering this problem and you are not
using a computer that has a Pentium processor then the
updated SERIAL.386 will not solve your problem. In
this case you are experiencing a hardware interrupt
conflict where you have more than one device in your
computer configured for the same interrupt request.
This can occur if you have an internal modem configured
for COM 1 and a physical COM 1 port on your system.
You must disable the physical COM 1 port in order for
the modem to work correctly. Refer to your hardware
documentation for instructions for disabling serial
ports. This can occur with other devices as well,
such as a sound card, network card or other add in
peripheral. Please contact your hardware vendor for
help resolving hardware interrupt conflicts.
There is a workaround if the port involved in the
interrupt conflict is not the port that your modem
is connected to. You can add the following lines to
the MSWORKS3.INI file that is in your Windows directory
to disable auto port detection.
[Communications]
DisablePortChecking=1
After adding these lines to your MSWORKS3.INI file
you will need to restart Works 3.0 for Windows. Now
when you start the communications module your system
should not hang. You will need to manually select the
port that your modem is on and choose Test. If your
system hangs at this point then we know that the
interrupt conflict involves the port that you selected.
You will need to resolve the hardware interrupt conflict
before you will be able to use the Works communication
module.
A4. Troubleshooting sound problems.
------------------------------------------------------------
If you don't hear any sound when you play animated movies from
the Works Online Reference or tutorial, you'll want to make sure that
you have a sound card installed, a speaker hooked up, and the
volume set at a comfortable level. You can perform a sound check
by selecting the Sound option from the Windows Control Panel.
If you're not getting any sound from your system, make sure that
your speaker or headphones are plugged into the sound jack on
your sound card, and not into the sound jack you may have on the
front of your CD-ROM drive.
If you're running Works on a 386 computer with only 4 MB of memory
and are encountering out of memory errors, or if the audio is broken
up and animations are slow, you should check to see if you're running
in Standard mode Windows. Choose About Program Manager from
the Program Manager Help menu to see which mode you're running
in.
If you're in Standard mode, make sure that you're starting
Windows by typing WIN at the MS-DOS prompt. If Windows defaults to
Standard rather than Enhanced mode on a 386 computer, this is probably
because you don't have enough memory free. Try removing SmartDrive
from your CONFIG.SYS file, if it's installed, or cutting down the
size of any RAM drive you may have set up. (See your Windows
documentation.)
When running in Enhanced mode on a 4-MB 386 computer, you may still
encounter memory problems or sound breaks. Make sure that when
you start Windows you have a permanent SwapFile of at least
2048 K. (See your Windows documentation.)
Sound breaks on any computer that is using a 256-color card are
usually the result of a low memory situation and can usually be
fixed by switching back to a 16-color video driver; this means
Works will need to devote less memory to display the graphics
and can use the freed-up memory to keep the sound and animation
flowing smoothly.
If you wish to leave the Works tutorial temporarily to run another
application that plays sound, quit the tutorial first. Otherwise
the other application may not be able to play any sound.
A5. Using Microsoft Works, Multimedia Edition with ATI video cards
------------------------------------------------------------------
If you are using an ATI video card and one of the "mach" video drivers
(mach8 or mach32) as your Windows display driver*, the Device Bitmaps
setting for the video card must be set to Off. This enables the
animations in Works to run properly. To check or change this setting,
do the following:
1. Launch the Mach FlexDesk Control Panel by double-clicking on the
Mach FlexDesk Control Panel icon usually found in the Mach Utilities
program group in Program Manager. The Mach Utilities group is created
when you run the ATI Mach Video Driver Setup Program.
2. Click the Advanced button.
3. If it is not already, set Device Bitmaps to Off.
4. Click OK to close the FlexDesk Advanced Settings.
5. Click OK to close the FlexDesk Control Panel.
You will need to restart Windows for the changes to take effect.
*You can verify the Windows Display driver selection by double-clicking
the Windows Setup icon found in the Main program group of the Windows
Program Manager.
For information about ATI video cards or the ATI installation utility
referred to above, contact ATI Technical Support at (905) 882-2626
A6. Installing Microsoft Works from a network CD-ROM drive
------------------------------------------------------------
This topic explains how to install Microsoft Works on individual
computers from a network server. It also explains how, while using
Works on an individual computer, you can access the Works Online
Reference and tutorials from a network server.
Before installing Works on individual computers on the network, the
network administrator must install a CD-ROM drive on the network
file server as a shared drive.
Then, after Works is installed on an individual computer, you can
use Works, even if your computer is not connected to the network.
However, when you install Works from a network CD-ROM drive, the
Online Reference and tutorials are not installed. They reside on
the Works CD. To access the Online Reference or tutorials, a
computer must be connected to the network CD-ROM drive.
NOTE: Every Works user must have a Microsoft Works for Windows license.
A license is obtained by buying a retail package or a Microsoft
License Pak. For more information about network use restrictions,
see your Microsoft Works for Windows license agreement.
To install Works from a network CD-ROM drive
1. Be sure that the Works compact disk is in the network CD-ROM drive
and that the drive is available (shared) to the computers on the network.
2. From the computer on which you want to install Works, connect to
the network CD-ROM drive.
3. If necessary, start Windows.
4. If necessary, switch to Program Manager.
5. From the File menu, choose Run.
6. In the Command Line box, type the drive letter of the network
CD-ROM drive, followed by \setup
For example, type n:\setup if N is the network CD-ROM drive.
The Works Setup program starts.
7. Follow the instructions on the screen to complete the setup.
8. Repeat steps 2 through 7 for each computer on which Works
is being installed.
To use the Online Reference and tutorial while using Works on a network
1. Be sure that the Works compact disk is in the network CD-ROM drive
and that the drive is available (shared) to the computers on the network.
2. From the computer on which you want to install Works, connect to
the network CD drive, using the same drive letter that was used to
install Works.
For example, use n:\ if N was the network CD-ROM drive that was used
to install Works.
NOTE: If you use a different drive letter, you must change the drive
letter in three files that Works modified during installation,
as described in the following table.
In this file In this section Change N in this line
------------ --------------- ---------------------
WIN.INI [MM Works] Path=N:\
VIEWER.INI [Files] MSWORKS.MVB=N:\
MSWORKS.INI [MM Works] HelpFilePath=N:\
3. If you changed the drive letter as described in the Note
following step 2, restart Windows.
4. If necessary, start Works.
5. To display the Online Reference, choose Contents from the Help menu.
- Or -
To start the Works tutorial, choose Tutorial from the Help menu.
A7. Printing Envelopes with an Envelope Feeder
------------------------------------------------------------
To print envelopes from the envelope feeder on your
printer, you must tell Works that you have an envelope
feeder installed. First, select Options from the Tools
menu. Select "Printer's envelope feeder is installed"
then choose OK. If the "Printer's envelope feeder is
installed" option is not enabled the printer will try
to print the envelope(s) from the manual feed tray.
A8. Changing the Default Font
-----------------------------------------------------------
Works 3.0 for Windows allows you to choose whatever
font you want as your default font. To set your default
font for the word processor for example, while you are
in a word processor document you would choose Font and
Style... from the Format menu. While you are in the
Font and Style dialog you would select the Font name,
size, color, etc. then choose the Set Default button.
This will take effect with the next word processor
document that you create. The word processor and
database form view will use the same default font,
while the spreadsheet and database list use the same
default font.
A9. Opening Works 3.0 for Windows files in Word 6.0 for Windows
------------------------------------------------------------
If you receive the error message "This is not a Works
for Windows file" when you are attempting to open a
Works 3.0 for Windows file into Word 6.0 for Windows,
you need to turn on the Confirm Conversions option in
the File Open dialog of Word 6.0 for Windows. Once you
have enabled Confirm Conversions then you can select
the Works 3.0 for Windows converter from the list of
available converters in Word 6.0 for Windows. If this
option is not available you will need to obtain the
Word 6.0 for Windows supplemental conversion kit.
The supplemental conversion kit is available on the
Microsoft Download Service, on CompuServe in the
Software Library, and from Microsoft Word Support.
A10. Removing Bullets from Word Processor Document
------------------------------------------------------------
When you add Bullets to a word processor document in
Works for Windows, the only way to remove the bullets
is through the Paragraph... command under the Format
menu. In the Paragraph dialog box, you need to select
the Indents and Alignment tab then uncheck the Bulleted
option.
A11. How to Delete, Move, or Copy a File
------------------------------------------------------------
If you want to move, delete, copy, or rename a file
that you created in Works for Windows you can do this
in the File Organizer Wizard or through the Windows
File Manager. The File Organizer Wizard can be accessed
through the Create new File option under the File menu.
Selecting the Create new File option will bring up the
Startup dialog. In the Startup dialog, first choose
Use a WorksWizard then you can select the File Organizer
option from the list of available Wizards.
A12. Menu Commands not Accessible
------------------------------------------------------------
After you open or save a document for the first time,
you may find that most menu commands are unavailable.
For example, choosing Font & Style from the Format menu
may result in no action, while Save and Print in the
File menu may work correctly. This may indicate that
you have an incorrect version of the file COMMDLG.DLL
on your computer. This file should be located in your
WINDOWS\SYSTEM subdirectory, but we have found it in
various locations.
Carefully follow the steps below to resolve this problem.
1. Start File Manager (usually located in the Main group
of Windows Program Manager).
2. From the View menu, choose All File Details.
3. From the File menu, choose Search.
4. In the Search For box, type "commdlg.dll" (without the
quotation marks) and enter the C:\ to search your C
drive. Repeat this process for each hard drive you
have on your computer.
5. If commdlg.dll is found in any directory other than
the WINDOWS\SYSTEM directory, rename each of the
files in directories other than WINDOWS\SYSTEM to
COMMDLG.OLD
6. Next we need to verify the version of the file left
in the WINDOWS\SYSTEM directory. If it is not present,
or the size is different than those listed in the
table below continue on to step 7, otherwise just
restart Windows since step 5 should have resolved the
problem.
Windows Version File Date File Size Disk
------------------------------------------------------
3.1 3/10/92 89248 bytes 4
3.11 11/1/93 97936 bytes 1
7. Exit Windows to MS-DOS and use the following command
to expand the file from the original Windows disk
(shown above):
expand a:commdlg.dl_ c:\windows\system\commdlg.dll
Note: You will need to substitute the path to your
WINDOWS\SYSTEM directory if it is different than the
one shown above.
8. Restart Windows and test Works. It should operate
correctly now.
A13. Printing Multiple Copies of a Label
------------------------------------------------------------
In order to print multiple copies of a label (a return
address label for example) you need to duplicate the
record in your database the number of times you want
the label to print. If you are using a database with
several unique entries you may want to copy the record
you are going to duplicate to a new database so you do
not disturb your existing information. The easiest way
to do this is to highlight from the row that you want
to duplicate in your database down to the number of
labels that you want printed. Once you have these
records highlighted then you can choose Fill Down from
the Edit menu to duplicate the records.
A14. Using Templates from a Previous version of Works
------------------------------------------------------------
Works for Windows version 2.0 and Works for MS-DOS
version 2.0 or 3.0 templates can be opened in Works for
Windows version 3.0. The template files for these
previous versions of Works have special names. By
specifying the special name in the File Open dialog
box, you can open templates from one of these previous
versions of Works in Works for Windows 3.0. The filenames
for previous versions of Works are as follows:
Works for Windows 2.0 or
Works for MS-DOS 3.0 Works for MS-DOS 2.0
-------------------- ----------------------------
TEMPLATE.1 TEMPLATE.PS
TEMPLATE.2 TEMPLATE.KS
. TEMPLATE.DB
.
TEMPLATE.999
Look for these files in the Works program directory.
(The subdirectory where you installed the previous
version of Works.) If you do not know which directory
this is, try looking in the \MSWORKS subdirectory if
your previous version was Works for Windows 2.0, or try
\WORKS if your previous version was Works for MS-DOS
version 2.0 or 3.0.
One at a time, open these files in Works for Windows
3.0. Then choose the Save As command from the File
menu to create a Works for Windows 3.0 template. For
information on saving a template in Works for Windows
3.0, see the Microsoft Works User's Guide.
After you have created Works for Windows 3.0 templates
from the previous version's files, you may want to
delete the old files. You will not be losing data,
because Works for Windows 3.0 makes a new copy of
the file when it creates each template.
A15. Text Columns do not Align
------------------------------------------------------------
If you are having difficulty getting columns of
information to align in the word processor, you may be
trying to use the spacebar to provide the space between
the two columns. This approach will not work in most
word processor applications because you are working
with text that has different widths for different
characters of the alphabet, numbers, and special
characters. For instance, a "W" will take up more
space than an "i" if you are using proportional fonts.
This is what causes the problem when you try to use
spaces between columns to align them. A better
approach is to set custom tabs at the measurement where
you want the columns located. More information about
setting custom tabs is available in the Works for
Windows User's Guide or through the Contents option
under the Help menu. Once you get the Help main screen
then you would need to choose the Word Processor option.
A16. Deleted File appears in Recently Used File list or
under File menu
------------------------------------------------------------
Do not worry if a file that you have deleted still
appears in the Recently Used File list of the Startup
dialog or at the bottom of the File menu. This does
not mean that the file has not been removed. If you
select a file that you think has already been deleted
from the Recently Used File list you will receive a
message from Works stating that the file cannot be
found. Once you dismiss this message, your file will
not be in the list any longer.
A17. Call Waiting Causes Problems with Works Communications
------------------------------------------------------------
If you plan to use the Works for Windows communications
module and you have Call Waiting service on your phone
line, you will need to disable Call Waiting during your
communications session. For information about how to
disable your Call Waiting service you will need to
contact your phone company.
A18. Spreadsheet Prints Blank Pages or the Wrong Area
------------------------------------------------------------
If your spreadsheet prints a blank page, a number of
blank pages after the data that you expected to print,
or the wrong area of your spreadsheet, you may need to
reset your Print Area. You can define exactly which
rows and columns that you want to print by selecting
the range that you want printed and choosing Set Print
Area from the Tools menu. After you have set the print
area, the pages printed will match the area that you
included in your print area. To turn off the Print
Area you choose Select All from the Edit menu, then
choose Set Print Area from the Format menu.
A19. Exchanging Files with Works for the Macintosh with
Macintosh PC Exchange
------------------------------------------------------------
To open a Works for Windows file in Works for the
Macintosh:
------------------------------------------------------
1. On a disk, save your Works for Windows 3.0 file in
the Works For The Macintosh format.
2. Insert the disk in the Macintosh drive and open the
file directly into Works for the Macintosh 3.0. If
the error message "There is no translator available
to import the file <document name>..." is displayed
when trying to open the file in Works for the
Macintosh, make sure that the correct document
associations have been added to PC Exchange according
to the following table. To check this, choose Control
Panels from the Apple menu and select PC Exchange.
The scroll box there should include the MS-DOS
suffixes in the table below. If the PC Exchange
control panel is not available, or does not contain
the correct document associations, Macintosh PC
Exchange is not setup correctly. Check your PC
Exchange documentation, or contact Apple or an Apple
dealer for assistance in configuring PC Exchange.
MS-DOS Suffix Application Program Document Type
------------- ------------------- -------------
.WP Microsoft Works 3.0 AWWP
.SS Microsoft Works 3.0 AWSS

To open a Works for Macintosh file in Works for Windows:
------------------------------------------------------
1. Save the file in the normal Works for the Macintosh
format, using no more than eight characters for the
filename and an extension of .WPS for Word Processor,
.WKS for Spreadsheet, or .WDB for Database.
2. Insert the disk in the MS-DOS machine and open the
file in Works for Windows 3.0.
A20. Exchanging Files with Works for the Macintosh with Apple
File Exchange, Network, or 3rd Party Utility
------------------------------------------------------------
If you do not have Macintosh PC Exchange, you can save
your file in a different format and use Apple File
Exchange or another method to translate the file between
the Windows and Macintosh environments.
To open a Works for Windows file in Works for the
Macintosh:
------------------------------------------------------
1. Save the file from Works for Windows 3.0 in one of
the following formats:

B. Common Error Messages
============================================================
B1. Setup Error: While registering OLE servers, Setup had
a Problem with REG.DAT, SHELL.DLL, or disk space.
------------------------------------------------------------
The following conditions can cause this error:
* An invalid Path parameter in the AUTOEXEC.BAT.
Entries in the Path that do not contain a drive
letter will cause this problem. A path statement
like PATH=C:\;\DOS will cause this problem but
PATH=C:\;C:\DOS will not. Notice the second example
includes the drive letter on both Path parameters.
-or-
* A corrupt REG.DAT file
To change your Path in the AUTOEXEC.BAT file
--------------------------------------------
1. From the File menu in Windows Program Manager,
choose Run.
2. In the Command Line box, type "sysedit" (without
the quotation marks) and choose OK.
3. In the AUTOEXEC.BAT window, locate the Path command.
4. Change the Path so each entry contains both a
drive and directory. For example, if Windows is
installed in the default directory of C:\WINDOWS,
the line should read C:\WINDOWS. For example, the
following is a sample Path statement in AUTOEXEC.BAT:
PATH C:\;C:\DOS;C:\WINDOWS
NOTE: You may want to double-check the entire Path
command. Make sure that every directory specified has
the appropriate syntax. For more information about
your Path command, see your MS-DOS User's Guide.
5. From the File menu, choose Exit. Choose Yes to save
changes.
6. Exit Windows and restart your computer.
7. Reinstall Works for Windows, version 3.0. Because
Setup was not complete the first time, you do not
need to uninstall Works 3.0 before you reinstall.
To correct a corrupt REG.DAT file
---------------------------------
1. Check to see if there are two REG.DAT files on your
hard drive. Your REG.DAT file should only be in the
Windows directory.
2. If there is only one copy of the REG.DAT on your hard
drive, change the filename to REG.OLD to create a
backup.
3. Restart Windows. When Windows restarts, it will not
find a REG.DAT file so it will re-create one with
default settings.
4. In Program Manager, choose Run from the File menu,
and type "regedit" (without the quotation marks) then
press ENTER.
5. From the File menu of the Registration Editor, choose
Merge Registration File.
6. Switch to the SYSTEM subdirectory of Windows and
double-click the SETUP.REG file.
7. The Registration Editor will inform you if the data
is registered properly. If it was, choose OK to return
to the editor.
8. Close the Registration Information Editor program and
save the changes.
9. Now you will need to reinstall Works 3.0 for Windows
since the installation process did not complete
successfully.
B2. Works requires SHARE.EXE in order to run
------------------------------------------------------------
This problem can occur if you are loading SHARE.EXE
without the proper parameters and you are running
Windows in Standard Mode or if you are running Windows
in 386 Enhanced mode and do not have DEVICE=VSHARE.386
in the [386Enh] section of your SYSTEM.INI.
If you are running Windows in 386 Enhanced mode make
sure that you have DEVICE=VSHARE.386 in the [386Enh]
section of your SYSTEM.INI.
To verify this entry in your SYSTEM.INI follow the steps
below:
1. Switch to the Windows Program Manager if you are not
already there.
2. Select Run from the File menu.
3. Type NOTEPAD SYSTEM.INI into the command field and
press OK.
4. Once the SYSTEM.INI file appears in NOTEPAD, choose
Find from the Search menu.
5. Type [386Enh] into the Find What field and choose OK
6. Manually scan through this section of the file for
the line DEVICE=VSHARE.386, if it does not exist
enter it on the line below [386Enh].
IMPORTANT NOTE: Be careful what you change in this
file, making the wrong change may cause Windows to
fail the next time you try to start.
7. If you added the command DEVICE=VSHARE.386, then pull
down the File menu and choose Save.
8. You will need to Close Notepad and restart Windows
for the change to take place.
If you are running Windows in Standard Mode, then you
need to start SHARE.EXE from DOS before running Windows.
If you are using MS-DOS 4.0, SHARE.EXE must be loaded by
your CONFIG.SYS file, but if you are using MS-DOS 5.0 or
later SHARE.EXE can be loaded in your AUTOEXEC.BAT.
CONFIG.SYS command for loading SHARE.EXE
----------------------------------------
INSTALL=C:\DOS\SHARE.EXE /L:500 /F:5100
AUTOEXEC.BAT command for loading SHARE.EXE
------------------------------------------
C:\DOS\SHARE.EXE /L:500 /F:5100
This must be loaded after SMARTDRV.EXE if it is present
in your AUTOEXEC.BAT, otherwise add this line to the top
of your AUTOEXEC.BAT.
After making these changes, you will need to Exit Windows
and restart your computer, you should now be able to run
Works for Windows without receiving the above error
message.
B3. Too many files open, or invalid Share parameters
------------------------------------------------------------
Refer to the instructions above in section B1 for the
error message "Works Requires SHARE.EXE in order to run"
to resolve this problem. You are loading SHARE.EXE from
either the AUTOEXEC.BAT or CONFIG.SYS without the proper
parameters.
B4. Cannot find file or file already open...
------------------------------------------------------------
If the error message "Cannot find file or file already
open..." is followed by the error message "Not all
files were loaded in the workspace" then you have saved
a Workspace that contains files that you have since

already there.
2. Select Run from the File menu of Program Manager

------------------------------------------------------------
This problem is related to the problem listed above
in section B6 containing steps for resolving the error
"No PC Card Installed on COM 3"
B9. Waited too Long for Response
------------------------------------------------------------
This error message in the communication module of Works
can be caused by a variety of problems with the
communication between Works and your modem. Below is
a list of possible causes.
1. External Modem's Power is not On
Solution: Turn the external modem's power on.
2. Port Settings May Be Incorrect
Solution: In the communications module, make sure
the port settings match in the Modem Setup and
Communications Settings dialog boxes. From the
Settings menu choose Modem. Note the communication
port in use. From the Settings menu, choose
Communication. Set the port to match the setting in
the Modem Setup dialog box.
3. Baud Rate May Be Set Incorrectly
Solution: Set the baud rate in the Control Panel to
the maximum rate the modem supports. The baud rate
Works is using is shown by selecting Communication
from the Settings menu. This baud rate cannot be
higher than what the modem supports. The rate
indicated here is controlled by the Control Panel
settings for the port. If the rate is higher than
the modem supports, complete the following steps:
- Exit Works.
- Run Windows Control Panel and choose the Ports icon.
- Choose the port Works is using for communication.
- Select the Settings Tab
- Change the baud rate to the rate the modem supports
- Select OK to accept the new baud rate
- Close the Ports Settings dialog
- Exit the Control Panel
- Restart Works and create a new communication
document
- From the Settings menu, choose Communication and
verify that the rate matches the one you selected
in the Windows Control Panel.
4. Advanced Settings May Have Been Changed to Invalid Strings
Solution: Use the Restore button to reset strings to
the Works defaults. From the Settings menu, choose
Modem and choose the Advanced button. If any of the
settings have been changed, use the Restore button to
return them to the defaults.
5. Modem Cable May Be Damaged
Solution: Replace the modem cable.
B10. Not Enough Memory to Undo
------------------------------------------------------------
The Works error message "Not enough memory to undo" means
that Works is unable to undo your request if you change
your mind after Works has completed your request. It does
not mean that Works cannot complete your request. When
you encounter this error, we recommend that you choose
Cancel, then Save your document. Saving the document
creates your own UNDO feature and you can revert to the
last save if you change your mind after executing a
command that Works said it could not undo.
B11. Operator Missing or Not Valid
------------------------------------------------------------
If you receive this error message while you are entering
data or a formula into the database or spreadsheet, the
list separator in the International Settings section of
the Windows Control Panel may have the wrong value.
This value cannot be blank. You should either have a
comma (,) or a semi-colon (;) in the List Separator
option.
B12. OLE Registration Database incorrect. Run Setup.
Continue anyway?
------------------------------------------------------------
This problem can occur if you have manually moved the
Works program files, renamed the directory containing
the Works program files, reinstalled Windows, or deleted
your REG.DAT file in the Windows directory. In any case,
this problem can be resolved by running the Works for
Windows Setup again.
